On-field Trade

The Angels reportedly picked up a closer from the San Diego Padres tonight.

This is the classic trade tomorrow for today deal.  Street might just put the bullpen in order after the deals for Jason Grilli and Joe Thatcher.

The Angels gave up
infielder Taylor Lindsey.  He is hitting .247/.323/.400 in AAA Salt Lake this year.

But I think the guy with the upside in the deal is

reliever R.J. Alvarez.  0.33 ERA in AA Arkansas this year.  12.7 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 and 0 HR in 27 IP.

The Padres also get infielder Jose Rondon and the Angels get a minor leaguer back.

  1. The Padres are stockpiling middle infielders. A lot of pundits said that Jose Rondon has the most upside out of the four guys the Angels gave up. Weird seeing Street in a red uniform.
